anjali world
Anjali World is a young Indian-American singer/songwriter from the Bay Area who specializes in Pop, R&B, & International music. Her sound can be described as urban pop and her lyrics have themes that portray individuality, youthfulness, love, and nature. She began singing as a child with her mother who used to participate in musicals, and eventually this inspiration led to Anjali joining a women’s chorus when she was a teenager. Anjali started recording with her brother who had a home studio where many local Bay Area rappers came to record during the infamous 'hyphy movement',resulting in traces of hip-hop in her sound. Her love for songwriting was also sparked when she was a child, as Anjali wrote poetry and song lyrics in her spare time, being influenced by a wide array of poets and songstresses who ranged anywhere from Shakespeare to Lauryn Hill.
With the work ethic instilled in her by her Indian father who came to the U.S. to attend M.I.T., she began practicing her vocals for hours daily, emulating her favorite artists and making YouTube covers as a young adult. Anjali taught herself the ukulele and studied music from diverse influences such as Aaliyah, Tupac, TLC, and others in order to expand her musical talent while attending the University of California, Berkeley. By the end of her college career, she started performing at open mics, parties, Indian events, and finally worked her way up to singing national anthems at NBA games as well as opening for performers such as Trey Songz, Indian pop sensation Raghav, and the New Boyz in 2013. Anjali spent months in studios throughout Berkeley songwriting, recording, and listening to beats.
Anjali recently released her first single known as "Turn Up" featuring the world renowned rapper French Montana shortly after she signed with Nick Cannon's label 'Ncredible Entertainment'. The single 'Turn Up' allowed Anjali to embrace her Indian heritage by incorporating modern Bollywood sounds with R&B/Pop melodies. She is currently working with the Astroknotts, a production duo whose members David and Drew Knott are also from the Bay Area, on her first debut solo album which is to be released in 2014. Anjali's unique artistry will soon become extremely popular worldwide due to her international influence, urban pop sound, fresh lyrics and hip-hop infused beats.
Aside from singing, Anjali also has a passion for the ocean as she co-founded a non-profit for endangered species known as Jaws & Paws, which aims to raise awareness and conservation tactics for protecting the environment. Anjali received a degree in Marine Ecology from U.C. Berkeley and used to spend summers cleaning up the ocean, scuba diving, or surfing when she wasn't singing. She has always had an endearing passion for animals, and Anjali's life goal is bigger than just taking the stage. Anjali hopes to integrate Jaws & Paws into her star-powered musical voice, building a gateway for oceanic awareness and the environment as a whole. A portion of proceeds from her album and merchandise sales will all go to her non-profit Jaws & Paws. Anjali also enjoys drawing and painting as a hobby, and she recently opened an online store selling clothing that sports her artwork. A portion of these proceeds will also go to Jaws & paws. Her main vision is to become an international presence using her music, artwork, and non-profit to influence young adults worldwide to care about the environment and philanthropy.
